There are just two weeks until the 2014/5 season finishes and the potential winners and runners up in the various divisions are looking certain with few upsets anticipated. In the Premier Division Iron Room A should be champions with Hoath A runners up, exactly the same as last year.

In Division 1 the winners will be Faversham A but second place is not certain as Iron Room C and CW2 are tied for points and are due to play this week. Division 2 leaders Faversham B can’t be caught and Herne Bay E should finish above Choughs C for second place.

Division 3 winners should be Natives B with Blean B as runners up and in Division 4 Choughs F should finish above Herne Bay J if all the outstanding fixtures are played.

The annual closed tournament takes place this Sunday at the Abbey school and the top eight seeds, in order, are Phil Thomas, Ray Jordan, Barry Chapman, Connor Russell, Martin Hewitt, Ian Mileham, David Jeavons and Mike Howard. This leaves some very good players unseeded and upsets are quite possible.

Past winner Ron Rowley is due to meet top Division 1 player Harry Law in the first round with the winner playing number 1 seed Phil Thomas in round two. Other unseeded players capable of beating anyone on the day are John Ferguson, Nick Mayes and Alan Taylor which makes the this event one of the most open for many years.

There is a rumour going around that David Jeavons pleaded with organiser Simon Hillier to be placed in a different half of the draw from Warriors player Adam Dyer and it appears his prayers were answered. However Adam is due to meet John Ferguson in the mens singles so potentially another top player might be anticipating a potential upset.
