Round one of the Lew Vale cup saw some very tight finishes last week, the closest of these being the clash between Choughs A and Heron B which Heron won in a deciding third end of the doubles. Both Paul Waumsley for Choughs and John Glass for Heron winning five of their six ends.

Other close finishes were CW2 and Herne Bay D, with the Bay side the victors by 11/10 despite Warriors Mick Eames winning five of his six ends and another close finish was the 11/9 win for Choughs C against Blean C, a 2/0 doubles victory deciding the match.

Probably the most unlikely result of the week was a win for Choughs G over Whitstable Natives B by 11/9, the Choughs team fielding just two players on the night. Other Choughs teams in action were Choughs E who lost convincingly to Faversham B 16/4, Choughs F who beat Faversham C 12/8 and Choughs D who beat CW1 11/7 thanks to five wins from Roy Baker.

The biggest victory of the week was a 17/3 win for CW5 over Herne Bay J with Kim Adi winning all six games. Other big wins were Blue Lawn beating Herne Bay E 16/4, both Kevin and Ricky Kay winning five from 6 and a 14/4 win for CW9 over Herne Bay L with Mike Nevitt winning all six ends.

The only other match played was a 12/8 victory for Whitstable Natives A against CW5, the trio of Barry Cooke, Adam Goodall and Barrie Thomas proving too strong for the Warriors trio of Jack Young, John and Linda Wickings.
