Week four of the new season and last year’s Premier Division champions, Iron Room A, met last year’s second placed team, Hoath A, and the result was an incredible 8/1 win for the Hoath side. There were three wins each for Barry Chapman and Ian Gordon and the sole Iron Room success a four set victory for Keith Yarnley over Mike Howard but probably the most amazing thing is the performance of Barry Chapman who has been out with tennis elbow for some time and is also handicapped by carrying several hundred thousand pounds in cash about his person at all times.

Showing the strength in depth of the Hoath club their C team met Heron A and went one better than the A side by winning 9/0. The trio of Mike Chapman, Simon Hillier and David Jeavons are probably the youngest team in the Premier Division and will be seeking a high league finish this year. Also in the Premier this week was the clash between the two promoted sides from last season and CW1 ran out emphatic 8/1 winners against Herne Bay B with trebles from Steve Cannon and Connor Russell, the sole win for the Bay team a five set victory for Simon Lee over Denis Cannon. The other recorded game was a 5/4 win for Iron Room B over Choughs A, Mebs Virani winning all three for the losing side.

In Division 1 CW2 beat Blue Lawn 5/4 thanks to a maximum from John Walker and Natives A beat Choughs B 5/4 despite a treble from Chough’s Steve Smith. The other recorded game was a 6/3 win for Iron Room C over CW2, Iron Room’s Peter Coles beating the in form Paul Davies but then losing in five to Warrior’s John Wickings.

In Division two a treble from Russell Swain helped Choughs C to a 6/3 win over CW5 and three wins from Frank Carlucci was instrumental in Herne Bay E beating Choughs D 7/2.

Division three had four recorded matches, the first of these a 7/2 victory for Natives B over CW9. Both Gordon Williams and Dave Block winning all three for Natives with one win apiece for Warrior’s Mike and Jonathan Nevitt. Blean C beat Herne Bay G 5/4 with Blean’s Kevin West winning all his games and CW8 had an 8/1 victory over Choughs E, only Richard Partridge responding for the Choughs side. The final match was a resounding 9/0 win for CW7 over Herne Bay H, the trio of John Metcalf, Bob Hassam and Mano Sathyamurthy only dropping one end between them on the night.
