Canterbury and District Table Tennis Association

Week commencing 19/11/12

Most Premier Division teams were in action this week with leaders Hoath A winning convincingly against eighth placed Warriors 1 by 9/0. Third placed Hoath B visited seventh placed Iron Room B and won 7/2, thanks in part to Chris Hearn bringing his formidable weapon into play, while Hoath C were drawn against the fourth placed Iron Room A team, losing 6/3 with Iron Room’s Martin Hewitt winning all 3. The other match in this division was between bottom team Heron A and fifth placed Choughs A but despite their league position Heron had a useful 6/3 win over Choughs with league chairman Arthur Martin winning all three.

In Division 1 first placed Herne Bay C entertained third placed Warriors 2 and ran out 5/4 winners in a very close match, Bay player Bill Baxter using his full command of Anglo Saxon adjectives together with a fierce loop to take two games. Fifth placed Warriors 3 comprehensively beat tenth placed Warriors 4 by 7/2 with both John Wickings and Connor Russell winning all their games. The other Division 1 game was a clash between fourth placed Natives A against ninth placed Choughs C with Natives winning 7/2 thanks to maximums from Adam Goodall and Barry Thomas.

Division 2 leaders Blean A played second placed Faversham A and won 6/3 with a treble from Paul Simmonds. Fourth placed Blue Lawn took on Blean Lions and beat the ninth placed team 9/0 while Herne Bay F, currently in sixth place, beat eighth placed rivals Choughs D by 7/2, Steven Dawson winning three games for the home side.

In Division 3 top placed Faversham D played eighth placed Herne Bay I but with the Faversham team fielding just two players they lost 5/4 to the Bay team. Second placed Warriors 2 took on Faversham C and won 7/2 with an excellent treble from Jill Weaver while third placed Warriors 8 narrowly beat Choughs E by 5/4 thanks to a treble from John Metcalfe. The other game in this division was an all Blean clash between the C and D teams with the C team winning 8/1, the sole win for the D team coming from Jean Jones.

Two games were played in Division 4. Warriors 10 played Choughs F and lost 3/2 with Tom Barton winning one for Warriors and Choughs Sima Jaconovic beating Warriors Jack Cannon. Imaad Nabil won his two singles for Choughs. The other match saw Warriors 11 lose to Faversham G with Carl Burgess winning both his games for the Faversham side.
