CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 23/02/2012

As the season enters its final phase the top teams in Division 1 are bracing themselves for a final attempt at the promotion battle.
On top by virtue of more matches won are Choughs B,who have bounced back into contention with 17 points from their last two games.
They are on the same points as Heron B,but have a game in hand.
Heron fought off the challenge of Iron Room B in their recent meeting. In a game vital to both sides,Heron were frustrated in their attempt to pull off an emphatic win by Brian Kennett, who took all three and Mike Lee who won one.
Iron Room still maintain 3rd position, just 5 points behind and two points behind them are Rough Common,a side that had looked solid in the first half but have stuttered recently.
The bottom two sides have not made much headway in their bid to move away from the relegation zone.Blean A have not seen a win for 5 matches and similarly for Blue Lawn. The latter has 3 games in hand over Herne Bay D,the side above them, but they trail them by 14 points.
In the Doubles League for Division 1,Herne Bay C are 3 points clear of Heron B. The latter have slumped to just one win in 5 doubles games, while Iron Room B have crept to within two points of Heron. Current doubles champions for this division,Choughs B,are 7 points behind the leaders and will be pushed to keep their hands on the title unless they pull off some remarkable wins.

The 3rd division situation seems to have altered very little, but there is still time for sides to put pressure on the the unbeaten and undisputed leaders,Dizzy Heights A. Andrew Coleman continues to spur on his colleagues,Yhu and Thomas Zhu,as they occupy top slot with a 3 point lead over Chestfield Warriors 5.
Warriors 5 have taken 21 out of 27 points and look to be the only side in form that could wreck the Height’s unblemished record.
Simon Howe was in superb form in their game against Herne Bay H,romping to a treble, supported by two wins from Bob Young and a win from from Bernard Ebeck. For the Bay,Paul Messenger responded with two victories and Robert Nutter with one.
This result did little to help the Bay’s cause, who find themselves entrenched next to bottom and 18 points adrift of the side above them.
Still at the bottom are Blean E,12 points behind the Bay H side.
Warriors 5 are currently leading the table in the Doubles League and have put a gap of 7 points between them and Warriors 6.
Warriors 6 head a group of 3 sides, all on the same number of points, but they have two games in hand.
Herne Bay I and Warriors 7 make up the other two sides, while Dizzy Heights A are a point behind the group of 3.

The closing date for entries to the Closed Tournament is Thursday 1st March 2012 so there is still time for league members to enter.
