CANNTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 02/02/12

Hoath A kept up the pressure on the other contenders at the top of the Premier Division.
The current champions cruised to their 9th and 10th consecutive wins against Herne Bay B and Heron A,both 9-0 victories to open up a a 12 point gap ahead of rivals,Iron Room A.
The Hoath players did not drop a single set against Herne Bay,but Roger Pingram took Ian Gordon to 5 sets before the Hoath player sealed it.
Iron Room A had kept up their challenge on the leaders with an emphatic 9-0 win over Choughs A but were thwarted in their next game by Hoath B.
Derek Brown and Mike Howard had given their side the perfect start, with Brown beating Ray Jordan 3-1 and Howard beating Paul Payen 3-2.
Chris Hearn went down 3-0 to Phil Morford, but Howard put his side 3-1 ahead when he beat Jordan 3-0.
Morford took out Brown 3-0 and Payen swept aside Hearn 3-0 to bring the match to 3-3 but Howard produced a telling win over Morford,3-0 and Hearn followed up with a 3-0 win over Jordan before Payen won the final game against Brown but Iron Room still lost 4-5 and with it may have gone an opportunity to close the gap on Hoath A.
Iron Room took the doubles 3-2 which puts them joint top of the doubles league on points but behind by one set to Hoath A.
At the other end things get bleaker for Herne Bay B as they succumbed to two 9-0 defeats and face an almost impossible task to survive at this level.
Above them,Chestfield Warriors have picked up points and are now only 8 points behind Choughs A,who have now lost their last 4 games.

The 4th Division is now headed by Faversham D, a side that has started the second half with two vital wins.
Against Chestfield Warriors 8,Ethan Braden got Faversham off to a wonderful start, beating Mano Sathyamurthy 3-1.
Lara Rodday followed this with a 3-0 win over Jonathan Nevett, but the latter made amends with a 3-0 win over Braden.
Rodday and Sathyamurthy were involved in 5 setter before Rodday finally sealed victory in the decider and put Faversham 3-1 up.
The Faversham pair romped to a 3-0 win in the doubles to secure an overall 4-1 win.
Faversham’s next game against Choughs E was not so straightforward.
Rodday made short work of Lewis Solly,3-0,but Braden had a 5 set battle with Jackie Fok and lost it in the decider.
Braden made up for his initial loss with a straight sets win over Solly but it was Fok who frustrated Faversham with a compelling 3-2 win over Rodday to level the match at 2-2.
Fok and Solly teamed up to beat Rodday and Braden in the doubles,3-2.
This result now leaves Faversham D two points ahead of their C side but the C side have a game in hand.
