CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 12/01/2012

The second half of the 2011-2012 season resumed last week and the few matches that have taken place have seen huge wins for the fancied promotion sides.

3rd Division side,Chestfield Warriors 5,have displaced Dizzy Heights A at the top of the table.
An emphatic 9-0 win over bottom side Blean E saw them move 3 points clear at the top of the Heights but played a game more.
The trio of Jack Young,Simon Howe and Bob Young reeled off their victories without the loss of any sets,except Bob Young,who needed 5 sets to get past Steve Hutton.
Warriors also completed a 3-0 win the doubles.
In the same division,Choughs D took full advantage of a depleted Herne Bay H to record a 9-0 win.
David Cooke and Richard Partridge had comfortable wins over Robert Nutter and Paul Messenger but James Ivens had to go to 5 sets with both before sealing victory.
The Bay got consolation in the doubles with a 3-0 win.
This win lifts Choughs into 3rd place,five points behind Dizzy Heights and eight points behind Warriors 5.

Chestfield Warriors 2 maintained their hold on 2nd place in Division 2 with an important win over Herne Bay E.
Jim Burns beat Eric Cawkill in the opening exchange but from there Warriors took the next six ties before Burns stopped the onslaught with a straight sets win over Linda Wickings.
Cawkill completed the evening with a win over Mick Micklethwaite to give his side a 7-2 win that sees them 5 points behind Warriors 3.
Elsewhere in Division 2,Choughs C squandered a 4-2 lead over Herne Bay F to only manage a 5-4 win.
Nigel Stansfield beat John Potter and Ray Cherry but lost in the 5th set to Mick Micklethwaite,while Jo Chan beat Micklethwaite and Potter but lost to Cherry.
Russell Swain beat Potter,lost easily to Cherry and lost in the 5th set to Micklethwaite.
Choughs secured the doubles 3-1.
Choughs maintain 3rd position in the Singles league while Bay F still occupy 5th place but have 2 games in hand over Choughs.

1st Division side,Choughs B,continued their push for the title with a good result against Herne Bay D.
Stephan Launois and Derek Smith did the damage,sweeping aside Steve furber,Keith Blackmore and Steve Furber but victory did not come without a fight.
Launois needed 5 sets to overcome Bee and Blackmore while Smith needed a deciding set against Blackmore.
Farouk Karim beat Furber,lost narrowly to Blackmore in 5 sets,but went down in straight sets to Bee.
The Bay won the doubles in the 5th set.
This win keeps Choughs in 2nd place,five points behind Rough Common
Common bounced back into form this year,after suffering their first loss of the season in December to Choughs B.
Against Whitstable Natives A they raced into a 5-1 lead through two wins each from Mick Eames and Gary Smith and one from John Hammond.
Barrie Thomas played brilliantly to beat Smith in 4 sets and Nick Fairweather took out Hammond in 4 sets,but Eames got his treble with a 4 set win over Adam Goodall to give his side a 6-3 win.
Natives clawed their way to a 3-2 win in the doubles.
