CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 3/11/2011

While Hoath A open up a 7 point at the top of the Premier division ahead of Herne Bay A,Iron Room have quietly crept into 3rd place with an unbeaten run of 3 matches.
Against Choughs A they were in imperious form as they carved out a 7-2 win.
Phil Morford raced to a treble without dropping a set, while new acquisition,Paul Payen,an extremely exciting prospect, added two, losing to Paul Waumsley in straight sets.
Paul Smallman added two more but he fell to Choughs new signing,Emma Torkington,a young promising player who currently studies at the Kings School. She made short work of her opponent in three sets but failed to make an impression on Payen or Morford.
Iron Room took the doubles in straight sets.
In their game against Hoath B they swept to another 7-2 win but the matches were much harder.
Morford gained a maximum but not before he was taken to the wire by Mike Howard, edging past in the 5th set.
Howard was involved in another 5 setter, this time with Ray Jordan, but again finished on the wrong side in a tense 5 setter.
Jordan went on to complete his hat trick but both Howard and Virani manged to beat Martin Hewett in 4 sets to gain some consolation.
Morford and Jordan had to fight off a determined challenge from Howard and Virani, winning the doubles in the 5th set.
Iron Room’s latest win was anemphatic 9-0 win over Herne Bay B
Vince Corbin took Colin May to 5 sets but could not pull off victory while Chis Howard played remarkably well to push Payen to a deciding set but failed to convert to victory.
Iron Room sealed their third successive doubles victory in straight sets.

Of the 3 Herne Bay sides in Division 2 only Herne Bay F remain unbeaten in 3 outings.
Their two latest victories began with an awkward game against Blean Lions.
Paul Davies began strongly against Barry Hull, moving to victory in 4 sets.
Alan Dilnot swept past John Potter in straight sets but Ray Cherry restored Bay’s lead by brushing aside Peter Cole in 3 sets.
Potter was edged out by Hull in 5 sets to bring the score to 2-2 but Davies and Cherry took control of the match for the Bay.
Both won their remaining matches comfortably, although Cherry was pushed to 5 sets by Hull, and finished 6-3 winners
Bay won the doubles in 4 sets.
Bay F then faced club colleagues,Herne Bay G,in a game that saw Davies score another treble and ably accompanied by a Mick Micklethwaite maximum.
Both players disposed of their opponents without much problem to register a 6-3 win and push them into third place,3 points behind Herne Bay E,but 12 points behind leaders,Chestfield Warriors 3,who still remain unbeaten after 4 games.
