In the opening round of the Beckett Shield,Bazrak were up against Choughs Other team.
Ricky Kay easily overcame a 13 point deficit to go past Richard Partridge in 2 sets while Barry Shirley,facing an 8 point handicap against Bob Hassam,came back from a set down to win in the final set.
Facing a 14 point disadvantage against Hassam,Kay lost the opening set,scraped a 25-23 win in the second, and in a thrillling deciding set,hung on for a 25-24 win which effectively sealed the tie for Bazrak.

Another game in the 1st round saw Busby Babe storm into a 2-0 lead over Kayos,with Mick Micklethwaite needing 3 tight sets to overcome Joe Kay,the latter with a 15 point start,while Mick Barwick held off the challenge of Kevin Kay with the help of an 8 point start in two sets.
Micklethwaite took the first set against Kevin Kay,despite a two point deficit,but Kay ground his way back to take the second and pulled off a 25-20 win in the decider.
Joe Kay brushed past Barwick 25-10,25-12,with a 9 point start and the match was level.
The Kayos pair saw off Busby in the doubles in straight sets to advance to the next round.

The 3rd game in the 1st round of the Beckett Shield saw CW3 against Chough Choir Boys.
Jill Weaver got her side off to a wonderful start,as she beat Darren McCulloch-Smith in two sets with a 12 point lead,but John Metcalfe narrowly lost in the final set to Derek Smith,22-25,off a 6 point lead.
Smith weathered a 9 point handicap to see off Weaver in 2 sets and McCulloch-smith withstood a 9 point disadvantage to beat Metcalfe in two sets and take the match 3-1.

The first round of the the Chapman-Gardiner Cup for teams that did not qualify for the beckett Shield saw Whitstable Pacific and CW11 Stoppables produce a great match,with Keith Garrad winning both his games to keep Pacific in the tie but they lost a close two set doubles against Stanley Bidston and Jon Bidston-Casey.
Another close tie in this competition saw CW5 Wurzels in a battle with Dizzy Heights A.
Yu Zhu breezed past Jack Young and Bob Young but Thomas Zhu failed to get on the scoreline.leaving the match poised at 2-2.CW5 scored a comfortable 2-0 win the double for a spot in the next round.
Jonathan Nevett’s unbeaten performance for CW11 in their tie against Norfolk and Chance saw them secure a 3-1 win.Eric Cawkill added the other victory.
The fourth 1st round match of the Chapman-Gardiner Cup saw ½ Red against Dizzy Heights B.
Mark Greenstreet made full use of a 19 point advantage over Brian Kennett for a 2-0 win while Joe Asmah,conceding 4 points to Hazel Emery,lost the first set,powered his way back in the second and clawed his way to a 25-24 win in the decider.
Spurred on by his success Asmah made the most of a 12 point start over Kennett to power to a 25-22,25-21 win and a place in the next round
