CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 26/05/2011

Group 2 side and current Beckett Shield holders,CW7 Ponging Pingers, slumped to their second defeat in 3 games.
Their latest defeat came against CW8 Incredibles, the side they beat in last year’s final.
CW8,without Connor Russell, brought in Linda Wickings and her opening game against Adam Jones saw her edge to a close win in the deciding third set off a one point lead.
Adam Jones made full use of his 4 point lead over Dirk Froebrich to produce a 2 set win and give CW8 a commanding 2-0 lead
Coombes weathered a 6 point deficit to overwhelm Jones in 2 sets but Froebrich could not get past Wickings and lost a tight third set.
CW7 hit back in the doubles to carve out a 2-1 win but this loss sees them slip into 4th place,3 points behind CW8,who occupy 2nd place and are still unbeaten.

Group 1 is headed by Bazrak, who marched to a decisive third win in their recent game against CW11 Stoppables.
Chris Barkaway and Ricky Kay overcame massive deficits against Stanley Bidston-Casey and John Bidston without dropping a set to set up an emphatic 5-0 win and put them on course for qualification.
In second place are CW2,who had a game recently against Busby Babe that was crucial to both sides.
John Wickings had a tussle against Mick Barwick, having to give him a 3 point start, but coming through in the final set.
Linda Wickings capitalised on a 6 point lead over Mick Micklethwaite for a 2-0 win.
Micklethwaite hit back strongly against John Wickings to take a 2-0 win off a 3 point handicap, while Barwick and Linda Wickings began on a scratch start and Barwick homed in for victory in the final set to level the match.
The Wickings had a 2 point start in the doubles and they held off Busby’s challenge for a 2-1 win and an overall 3-2 win.

CW9 still remain unbeaten in Group 3 but are in second place to CW3 by 2 points, having played one game less than the leaders.
Their latest game was a fascinating encounter against Dizzy Heights A in a game that both needed to win.
Jacob Midson had a 5 point start over Thomas Zhu and both players shared the opening two sets before Zhu took control in the final set to seal a win.
Yu Zhu romped to a 2 set win over Kell Davies and CW9 were looking decidedly shaky.
Midson powered back to stride past Yu Zhu in 2 sets off a 5 point lead and this inspired Davies to produce a brilliant performance against Thomas Zhu,beating him in two sets to level the match.
CW9 and Heights shared the first two sets in the doubles but in a tense final set CW9 hung on to secure a very important win in their bid for qualification.
