CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 17/02/11

Division 3 side,Chestfield Warriors 6,faced club colleagues,Warriors 4 in a game that was important to both sides.
Len Pavelin and Bob Hassam got them off to the perfect start with wins over Simon Howe and Bernard Ebeck but Bob Young hit back with a 3-0 win over Peter Stacey.
Pavelin and Ebeck slugged out a gruelling 5 setter before Pavelin nicked the decider but back came the 4 side through Howe beating Stacey 3-1.
Hassam manged to keep out Young in the 5th set, while Stacey achieved his first success of the night with a 3-0 win over Ebeck.
Pavelin moved to a well deserved treble with a 3-1 win over Young and the final game of the night saw Hassam pressing for his treble against Howe, but the latter denied him the privilege with a win in the 5th set.Warriors 6 still got a 6-3 win to ease their relegation worries.
The following week saw Warriors 6 in full swing against the experienced Herne Bay I side, gaining a 8-1 win with only Stacey losing out to Robert Nutter. This win takes them above the bottom 3 and with games in hand they should be assured of safety.

Third placed side in division 3,Herne Bay J,faced two tough back to back games against the top 2 sides.
Against Chestfield Warriors 5,Adrian Dowman took his side into a 4-1 lead by beating Craig Francis in 5 sets and a straight sets win over Jake Coombes, while Steven Dawson beat Francis in 4 sets and Val Ranken beat Coombes in 5 sets.
Josh Algar maintained his superiority with comfortable wins over Dawson and Ranken but his side slipped to their first defeat of the season when Dawson beat Coombes in 4 sets.
Francis withstood the challenge of Ranken in 5 sets and Algar saw off Dowman in straight sets to keep defeat to 4-5.
In their next game against leaders,Faversham B,Ranken and Dowman pulled off great wins over David Oliver and Craig Kirby but Faversham recovered through Terry Wibberley beating Dawson and Dowman and with Kirby beating Ranken and Oliver beating Dawson,Faversham moved 4-2 ahead.
Dawson gave Bay hope with a 3-1 win over Kirby, but Wibberley completed his maximum with a comfortable win over Ranken and Oliver disposed of Dowman in 4 sets to maintain
their top slot,30 points ahead of Warriors 5.Both sides have to play each other twice and these will prove two absorbing confrontations.
