There are 4 teams involved in an intense struggle at the foot of Division 2 in a bid to move away from the threat of possible relegation. Chestfield Warriors 3 have won just one match in seven outings and are firmly rooted at the bottom.
They faced fellow strugglers,Blean Lions,in a close game that saw both Jill Weaver and John Metcalfe secure 2 wins each but neither were able to get past Barry Hull and with Dirk Froebrich failing to register a win they went down 4-5.
Lions are 5 points clear of Warriors and a point behind Herne Bay H.Warriors and the Bay met recently in a game that saw Bay speed into a 4-1 lead thanks to two wins from Mick Barwick over Weaver and Froebrich, while Joe Asmah lost to Metcalfe but beat Weaver and John Potter edged out Froebrich in 5 sets. Metcalfe hit back with a 3-0 win over Potter while Froebrich stormed back with a good 3-0 win over Asmah.Metcalfe and Barwick played out a gruelling 5 setter that Barwick eventually took in the decider but Weaver made sure of a fourth point, beating Potter in 4 sets.
Four points clear of the Bay are Choughs D,a side that has struggled to get into a consistent winning run. They lost badly to top sides,Natives B and Blean A,but surprised Warriors 2.Stuart Parker and Nigel Stansfield had taken two wins each in the game but both had succumbed to John Wickings, while Jo Chan beat Linda Wickings to put Choughs 5-3 ahead. Chan and John Wickings slugged out a 5 setter before Wickings got the crucial deciding set to deny Choughs another point.

The 3rd division relegation scene sees Blean D still looking for their first win in 7 games,10 points behind Choughs F. The latter’s recent game was against fellow strugglers,Whitstable Natives C,two points above them.David Smallman and David Cooke had both beaten Peter Dale to take the score to 2-2,but Keith Garrad and Gordon Williams were in devastating form, both unbeaten on the night, although Cooke took Garrad to 5 sets.Richard Partridge beat Dale, but Choughs lost 3-6.
Chestfield Warriors 6 share the same number of points as Natives C and have found the going tough this year. They met Herne Bay J recently and soon found themselves 2-3 down as Val Ranken powered his way to wins over Len Pavelin and Peter Stacey while Steven Dawson beat Stacey. Bob Hassam and Pavelin replied by both beating Adrian Dowman and then all 3 Warriors players won their next games to go 5-3 up and in the final game of the night Hassam just got the better of Ranken in the 5th set for a 6-3 win.
In their next game,Warriors were a man short against another side in the relegation zone,Blean C,and were soon in trouble as Hassam lost to Keith Ackland and Stacey to Kevin West in 5 sets. Stacey lost another 5 setter to Ackland and although Hassam beat both Jean Jones and West and Stacey beat Jones ,it was Blean who got the better of this crucial game with a 6-3 win.
