CANTERBURY & DISTRICT TTA PRESS REPORT 09/12/10

With severals fixtures disrupted by the bad weather attention focuses on the progress of teams in the separate doubles league. Premier division leaders,Herne Bay A,hold the same position in the doubles league,with one loss in 6 outings. Their one loss was against Hoath B,losing a close match in the 5th set. Hoath B are in second place, two points behind,having also lost one game,0-3,to Herne Bay,who share the same number of points as Hoath B,but having lost one more game. The threat to all 3 sides comes from 4th placed,Hoath A. They have won all 4 of their doubles games, and have not conceded a single set,leaving them in a very strong position for the doubles title.

Topping the doubles table in Division 1 are Herne Bay E. They have taken 5 wins out of 7. Three points behind them come Whitstable Natives A,one of the two sides to have beaten the leaders. They have lost just one match,0-3,to Herne Bay C,but have the advantage of a game in hand over the leaders. In third slot are current 1st division doubles champions,Chestfield Warriors 1.They have lost 3 out of 6 matches and are 4 points behind the leaders.Herne Bay C are a point behind Warriors in 4th place and behind them are Choughs B,well placed with just one loss in 4 games.

2nd Division doubles league leaders,Blean A,are one of 3 sides in all 5 divisions to have a 100% doubles record. With 7 wins from 7,they are two points clear of Warriors 2,who have lost two but have kept clean sheets in the remaining five games. Having lost to both Blean and Warriors,Herne Bay H find themselves in 3rd place,two points adrift,while Herne Bay F are conveniently placed in 4th place,two points behind Bay H but with a game in hand.

The 3rd Division doubles situation sees Chestfield Warriors 5 and Faversham B battling for supremacy, both on 20 points but Warriors have the better games average. Warriors lost 2-3 to Warriors 6 while Faversham lost 2-3 to 3rd placed,Herne Bay I. The latter have lost two games but still find themselves in the hunt,just 4 points behind the top two. In 4th place come Warriors 4,a point behind the Bay but a game in hand over the top 3 and still in contention.

After losing their opening doubles game of the season to club colleagues,Dizzy Heights A,Dizzy Heights B have reeled off wins in their next 6 doubles games to occupy top slot in the doubles challenge with 20 points.Behind them come Faversham C,unbeaten in 5 doubles outings,5 points behind the Heights B side but with two games in hand and both have yet to play each other. Dizzy Heights A follow Faversham C in third place,with just one surprise defeat in 5 games to Faversham D. Heights A have also to play Faversham C in a vital game for both sides in singles and doubles. In 4th place come Warriors 7,who made a promising start,faded in between but are recovering slowly and still in with a good chance to break into the top 3.
