The two Choughs sides in Division 2 met in the first of their two encounters for this season. The D side found themselves a player short but made a winning start through Stuart Parker overcoming Clive Curnick in straight sets. Rob Easton levelled for the E side with a positive 3-1 win over Roy Baker, but Dennis Brindley had no answer for the in form Parker, losing in 3 sets. Baker and Curnick were involved in a mammoth struggle that saw the game go to a 5th set before Baker just squeezed home. Parker completed his well deserved hat trick with a 3-0 win over Easton to leave the match poised at 4-4. Baker shrugged off the challenge of Brindley in 4 sets to see the D side home,5-4. Baker and Parker made short work of their opponents in the doubles with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Elsewhere in the division,Herne Bay F continued their fine start to the season with two further wins. Against Blean Lions,Graeme Sopp and Graham Waters were stunned by Barry Hull and Alan Dilnot, who hit them with 3-0 wins, but Pauline Howard hit back with a 3-0 win over Peter Cole and the Bay proceeded to win the next 3 ties to move 4-2 ahead. Dilnot prevented Mrs Howard from her treble with a 3-1 win but straight sets wins by Sopp over Cole and Waters over Hull saw the Bay ease to a 6-3 win. Bay maintained their superiority in the doubles with a 3-1 win. A 5-4 win over Herne Bay G sees them top of the division on 20 points.

In Division 1,Heron A’s bid for promotion suffered in their opening fixture against Herne Bay E. Vince Corbin helped the Bay into a 4-0 lead with wins over Graham Solly and Peter Chapman. Ian Blogg got Heron on the scoresheet with a 3-1 win over Howard but Matt Newman put his side further ahead with a 3-0 win over Solly.Corbin slogged it out with Blogg over 5 sets before emerging winner while Newman also completed his hat trick with a 3-0 win ove Chapman.Solly salvaged another point for Heron with a win over Howard.
Against a 2 man Choughs B side, Chapman lost the opening tie against Roy Coles 3-1 but Blogg levelled with a hard fought 3-2 win over Derek Smith. Former Premier Division ace player,Gary Patston, had a difficult comeback, losing in 5 sets to Coles but Chapman ousted Smith in 4 sets to bring the score to 3-3. Coles completed a crucial hat trick against Blogg in 4 sets, but Patston failed to make any impression on Smith, losing in straight sets, but Heron emerged winners 5-4.
Heron’s recent game against Choughs C was another close affair, with Heron moving into a 3-1 lead with the help of two wins from Blogg. Colin Quinn and Farouk Karim replied strongly for Choughs with wins over Solly and Chapman. Solly beat Russell Swain and Blogg got his treble with a 4 set win over Karim. In a tense final tie, Quinn edged out the luckless Chapman in the 5th set to restrict Heron to a 5-4 win.
