The League programme began last week and the results show that there will be fierce competition for honours this season.

Premier division side, Herne Bay A,signalled their intentions with an emphatic win over Heron A. The Bay trio of Keith Clark,Ron Rowley and Andrew Cannon had coasted to a 4-0 lead but the next 5 ties all went to 5 sets but none of them to Heron, giving Bay a 9-0 win and an excellent opening start to their league campaign.
Hoath B made a good start to their Premier league campaign against 1st division champions,Hoath C. With the exception of a solitary win by Mebs Virani over Clive Hollingsbee in the opening tie,the B side were in total control, with both Mike Howard and Chris Hearn remaining unbeaten to register a 8-1 win.
Current Premier champions,Hoath A,showed against newly promoted Faversham A that they are in no mood to relinquish their title easily. Barry Chapman and Ian Mileham produced unbeaten performances while Andy Roberts could only muster a solitary win to give Hoath a 7-2 win.

Division 1 new boys,Blue Lawn Lilac Time, had the perfect start to the season against experienced side,Whitstable Natives A. Ricky Kay and Kevin Kay had put their side 2-0 up with wins over Barry Cook and Malcolm Hoyle but Natives levelled through Adam Goodall beating Barry Shirley and Cook beating Kevin Kay. The next 3 ties went to Blue Lawn, with both Ricky and Kevin scraping 3-2 wins over the luckless Goodall and Shirley beating Hoyle. Cook beat Shirley but Ricky Kay rounded off a great night for himself and his side, beating Hoyle to stay unbeaten and a 6-3 win for Blue Lawn.
Elsewhere in the 1st division, two of the fancied sides for promotion were thwarted in their efforts to achieve decisive victories. Iron Room B were locked at 4-4 with Herne Bay D before Keith Harris got the all important final tie to give Iron Room a 5-4 win and a treble for himself. For the Bay,Keith Blackmore scored 2 wins but lost in 5 sets to Harris.
1st division side,Chestfield Warriors 1, were looking in commanding form against Herne Bay C,going into a 5-2 lead through a Denis Cannon treble, but Simon Lee pulled one back with a 3-1 win over Michael Chapman and Bill Baxter dashed any hopes of a solid opening victory for Warriors with a 3-1 win over Roger Jordan to restrict them to a 5-4 win.

Division 2 saw Chestfield Warriors 2,pull off a 6-3 win over Herne Bay G. John Wickings and Eric Cawkill rarely looked troubled as both raced to maximums while Linda Wickings was unfortunate to lose all three, going down in 5 sets to both Mark Walton and Jim Burns and in 4 sets to Sue Harris.
In the same division, Whitstable Natives B cruised to an 8-1 win over Herne Bay H,thanks to trebles from Nick Fairweather and Tony Causer, while Herne Bay F made short work of Warriors 3,trouncing them 9-0,with maximums from Graham Waters,Frank Carlucci and Graeme Sopp.
